Jatamansi Oil for hair: A practical option?

Nardostachys jatamansi, as it is botanically known, is considered a magical herb, the hairy roots of which have been used as a part of alternate medicine in Ayurveda. It is also known by the name of Spikenard as essential oil derived from the roots is known as Spikenard Oil, native to India, Nepal China and Bhutan. Other common names of jatamansi are Tapaswini, Musk root, Bhutijata.

Jatamansi Oil acts as a brain tonic and helps to improve memory  and brain functions by preventing cell damage due to its antioxidant properties. Jatamansi Oil helps control hair fall and promote hair growth when applied to the scalp by balancing the Tridosha (Vata, Pitta, Kapha dosha). It has traditionally been used to cure anxiety, depression, epilepsy and insomnia.

Concerning hair problems, using Jatamansi Oil provides the following results:

  • Improve the health of hair follicles
  • Increases the hair volume and strength
  • Imparts shine and black color to the hair
  • Cures premature graying of hair
  • Reduces Male Pattern baldness

Jatamansi Oil can be used separately by diluting in any carrier oil or combined with other herbs oils such as Bhringraj, Brahmi, and others that exhibit hair enrichment properties.

Directions to use:  Take 2 to 5 drops of Jatamansi oil and mix it with 1-2 Teaspoon of coconut oil. Apply on the scalp once a day to control hairfall. Mixing Jatamansi Oil with seseme oil on the scalp promotes shine and hair growth. Castor oil and jatamansi oil can be applied together  to help hair growth on bald patches. To cure dandruff or any scalp infection, mix 3-5 drops of Jatamansi in 200 ml of Neem oil, then apply and leave it overnight  and then wash it off. It would be a better option to use Jatamansi Oil for healthy hair growth, the only thing is that always use it after consulting to an expert.
